Laurence John Fishburne III, known simply as Laurence Fishburne, is an American actor, producer, writer and director, born in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 30, 1961. Son of Hattie and Laurence, a teacher and a prison guard, respectively. , Laurence grew up in Brooklyn, with his mother, after his parents’ divorce. There, he studied acting at the Lincoln Square Academy in New York.

Laurence began acting from the age of 12, making his television debut in One Life to Live (1973), and then moving on to films with the films Cornbread, Earl and Me (1975), Basket of Dreams (1979) and Apocalypse Now (1979). . With the director of the latter, Francis Ford Coppola, he would work again on the films Rumblefish (1983), The Cotton Club (1984) and Gardens of Stone (1987).

One of his most notable roles was that of Swain in Steven Spielberg’s film, The Color Purple (1986).
