BIOGRAPHY
Belonging to the so-called Golden Age of Mexican cinema, Ofelia Guilmáin showed a vocation for acting, she studied ballet and participated, in the midst of the Spanish Civil War, in the El Retablo Rojo company with which she toured the front doing guerrilla theater. She later joined the ranks of Spanish artists and intellectuals who fled to Mexico during the War. She was a close friend of the actor José Gálvez and the painter David Alfaro Siqueiros. She worked in Mexican films since 1941 and became a Mexican citizen in 1952. In her last years of television, she gained fame as the quintessential villain in soap operas for her performances in La antorcha activa (1996), El alma no tiene color ( 1997), I will always love you (2000), The Other (2002) and Loving You Is My Sin (2004). During the last decades of her life she acted in several television series and devoted herself mostly to the theater.
